My favorite part of Thanksgiving is easily the next few days. Suddenly the refrigerator is full (if I’m lucky, this fullness includes a few slices of apple pie), and rather than cook full meal’s from scratch, I get to improvise with dinner leftovers in the refrigerator.

Something about dinner leftovers makes me feel challenged, though. I am only ever happy eating them as a turkey dinner once before they must become my favorite turkey sandwich, a bowl of soup, a curried bowl of goodness. It’s like someone has given me a new set of paints and challenged me to eat them.

I’m not the only one who gets inspired by their leftovers, though, so here are a few of my favorite creative ways to eat your turkey dinner again and again and again without ever really eating the same thing twice.

My husband loves football. However, this little tidbit was not disclosed in our prenuptual agreement.

OK, we didn’t really have a prenup, but he kept this information well hidden until I was deeply entrenched as his wife, having borne him four children. I thought I had escaped life as a football widow, but no.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me you liked football?” I lamented as we bought rabbit ears one chilly autumn afternoon.

His response was, “We never lived in a major city with its own football team.”

So there you have it. “We” became Kansas City Chiefs fans for five years until we moved to another NFL city and switched our allegiances to the Chargers.

Now, nine years later? I love foodball. Er, I mean, football. I love the food, that is. So as the current season is officially kicked off, here are some great bites to celebrate the foodball season, that is the football season.
