One of the first printables I ever made was a set of shopping lists that I shared with the Deal Seeking Mom readers.

I always make my shopping list by aisle (and now Plan to Eat does this for me automatically – woohoo!), and this printable provides the perfect framework for doing that, plus I’ve left space for notes about coupons, sales, etc.

Over time, as I developed the Life…Your Way printable style, the shopping list pages began to stick out like a sore thumb, so this weekend I updated them to match the rest of the printables!

Download or print your free shopping lists:

Or get all of the Life…Your Way printables in a single download when you buy the complete download pack for just $7! The complete set includes all printables published to date, organized by folder within a single download. It also includes free monthly email updates with any new or updated printables in a single download as well. Read more about download packs here.

Very good advice Kat! We have to figure out what works for US. Stop looking at others, and examine our habits and actions and see what we can do to make it work.
    Great post!

I know a pretty cool website dedicated to that premise. Oh, wait…

      LOL!

So true! We need to take other peoples successes and use them as a framework for our success.

I love this! Anytime I try to make someone else’s plan/system/method work for me, it always fails and I end up feeling like a failure. I love that we are each wired differently and thus our plan will not look exactly like anyone else’s plan!

Yes! Kind of like when we shop at a store we don’t grab the clothes off the mannequin – we look for our size and fit and just use the mannequin as a guide.

        Great analogy, Kat!

It’s like you read my mind! Every time I try (and I’ve tried MANY times) to squoosh myself into someone else’s box, it NEVER works. Which makes me wonder…*why* do I keep trying?! (Hmmmm…) Excellent post! I wanna be ME! :)

    • http://yourway.net Mandi @ Life…Your Way

I think we all do this — but recognizing that you do it is half the battle!

Fabulous! I feel like a failure every time I start trying to move further into the FlyLady methods! They just don’t work for me! This is a great reminder to set aside all those other methods and do what works for me! Thanks!

    • http://yourway.net Mandi @ Life…Your Way

Yes! Some people will need to tweak them to fit their own lifestyle, needs and preferences (Organizing Your Way was founded on that exact principle), but for others, the system may just not work at all, and it’s okay to abandon it as you search for something that will work!

This is exactly what I needed today. Although I gave up New Year’s resolutions years ago, I still set goals for the New Year in January. I have been beating myself up for not working towards any of my goals so far this year as if it doesn’t count if I start in February.
By the way, the Flylady started her program after she failed at someone else’s organizing/cleaning system!

I think sometimes we worry so much about the “perfect” time to start a new goal, project, etc. that we miss out on so many opportunities to improve. I’m trying to fight back against this and set new goals or take steps toward the ones I already have whenever the opportunity arises, but it’s not easy!

It’s like this was written just for me today. I’m in the process of redefining myself, my goals, and I keep having to adjust my schedule and habits accordingly. Thanks for the reminder that I’m not alone!

    • http://yourway.net Mandi @ Life…Your Way

You’re definitely not alone. For a type-A personality, I’m not very “steady”, and I change the way I do things constantly!

I could NOT agree MORE! This is such a great reminder and great encouragement to stick with it! I would also add that it is wise to revisit your goals often throughout the year. Even a method that you tailor-made to fit your own life today could become outdated as the year goes on and your circumstances change.

    Thanks for this!
    Blessings,
    Sandy

      Good point Sandy!

Before this turns into a bash fest, just a reminder that FlyLady doesn’t say, “It’s my way or the highway.” If you read her site carefully, you’ll see that she recognizes that her initial suggestions may not work for everyone as we all have different life factors (as people have commented above). FlyLady is popular because her *suggestions* work for many (not all) people but more so because she is an encouraging, nonjudgmental voice who cheers you on every step of the way, no matter what you do. She would be the first to say that her system is flexible and that you should take what you need from it and leave the rest.

Your point about “their” methods is certainly valid and true, but let’s recognize that life (and getting organized) is about trial and error. We have to “try on” systems and their components to see what works for us and what doesn’t until we find a good combination. Just because a particular system or part of it didn’t “work” for someone doesn’t mean the whole apple is rotten.

And if you’re thinking that I’m a FlyLady fanatic, you’re half right – just like I only use certain parts of her system. :)

      Val,
I agree 100%! Thanks for helping clarify that point. The Flylady rocks, in my humble opinion. She keeps us from having to reinvent the wheel. Instead we just need to adjust her framework to fit our lives.

      Thanks for your input Val!

thank you so much. It was a nice reminder. I started flylady again this year and became overwhelmed with all of her emails and testimonies and so forth. However, I like her idea of stuff and so instead of giving it up again i am going to adjust it to my lifestyle.

    • http://yourway.net Mandi @ Life…Your Way

That’s a great way to go about it. I know she definitely influenced the way
I do things (the clean kitchen sink has become pretty central to my
methods), but I couldn’t really deal with the emails either!

I use a notepad, but of course this is more organized. But a quick tip: if you print half page you could write out your weekly menu on the other side. So if your like me and see something on sale I can change my menu a bit and save money.
