No More Boring Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
First, a disclaimer: I actually like plain ol’ grilled cheese sandwiches, and my hubby makes them for us once a week for lunch.
But sometimes it’s fun to spice things up, and there are so many variations on regular grilled cheese sandwiches — from buffalo chicken to tomato basil. Here are just a few, and I’d love to hear what other gourmet sandwiches you love in the comments!
Mmm, I’m pretty sure pesto makes everything taste better, and this spinach pesto and gruyere grilled cheese looks and sounds delicious.

Honestly, I was never a huge fan of pairing cheese and fruit until recently, but it’s becoming one of my favorites. I can only imagine how delicious this sandwich is with the combination of whiskey cheddar and juicy ripe pears on sourdough bread!

Homemade sloppy joe sandwiches are one of the few things that everyone in my family loves, and I love the idea of serving them as grilled cheese sandwiches rather than on hamburger buns. Sloppy joe meat freezes wonderfully so you can easily make a double batch and freeze half for a second meal. Add some fries or chips on the side, and you’ve got an easy lunch or dinner!

I have a love-hate relationship with onions. I’m not a huge fan of their texture when they’re cooked, but it’s hard to deny the flavor they add to a variety of dishes, and I bet this spin on classic french onion soup tastes amazing!

Hmm, a grilled cheese sandwich without bread? It sounds a bit heretical to me, but Shaina from Food for My Family
promises that this grilled portabella mushroom and cheese sandwich is well worth the risk!

Here’s another fruit and cheese sandwich, this time with tangy, crisp apples and melted brie. I bet this sandwich will be a hit with kids and adults alike!

Of all of these variations, this is the one that has my mouth watering the most. I’ve had a strange love of buffalo chicken since I was pregnant with our third daughter, and I can’t wait to try this for myself!

I love Monte Cristo sandwiches, and when I saw this baked version on Pinterest, I quickly added it to our meal plan! We actually had it last night, and it was a hit with the combination of the flavorful black forest ham, mild Swiss cheese and the sweetness of the pastry and powdered sugar, plus the sandwiches themselves were quick and easy to make.

I’m not much of a gardener, but I do love to grow tomato and basil, and combining those two ingredients with mozzarella cheese is one of my favorite parts of summer. This grilled cheese sandwiches combines those flavors as well in a light and delicious sandwich!
