I remember being intimidated when I saw the posts about this challenge last year, but since hosting the Break the Sugar Habit and writing Easy Homemade, it no longer seems as daunting, so I’m ready to give it a try.
Note that this isn’t even October Homemade. Andrew’s challenge is to only eat foods that could be made at home, even if you choose store-bought. In his words:
If you pick up something with a label (if it doesn’t have a label, it’s probably unprocessed), and find an ingredient you’d never use in your kitchen and couldn’t possibly make yourself from the whole form, it’s processed.
In fact, we already are eating mostly unprocessed foods at home. I still have to work on the snacks we take on the road (I keep a box of healthier snack bars for this purpose), but our kitchen looks drastically different than it did one year ago, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of actually committing 100% and seeing what else I discover — about myself, about my kitchen and about the food we eat — through the challenge!
Caveat: Sean and I will be traveling for a week in October for our 10th anniversary, and I don’t plan to spend my time carefully evaluating everything we eat, so I will be taking that week off from the challenge.
